DeScenza Tops Female High Point Leaderboard

TYR swimmers marked fast times at this weekend’s Santa Clara Grand Prix.

Mary DeScenza set a new Meet Record as she won the 200m Butterfly. Mary clocked in a time of 2:07.77. Mary leads the overall Grand Prix Series High Point Award for females. She won Silver in both the 100m Butterfly (59.21) and the 200m Backstroke (2:13.66).

Robert Margalis had a great performance in the 400m IM, swimming all four specialty strokes in a time of 4:15.05. He broke from the pack to garner a Silver medal. With speed by his side, Matt Grevers quickly touched the wall at 22.58 in the 50m Freestyle for a Silver finish.

Peter Verhoef and Mary DeScenza both set Lifetime Personal Best Times in the preliminaries. Peter set his Personal Best Time of 2:04.59 in the 200m Butterfly. In the 400m Freestyle, Mary recorded her Lifetime Fastest Time of 4:16.13.

Distance swimmer Katie Carroll continues to be one of top American distance swimmers. In the 400m Freestyle (4:11.67) and the 800m Freestyle (8:36.65), Katie grabbed a Top 4 Finish in both.

With over a month to go, TYR swimmers prepare for the upcoming U.S. Olympic Trials on June 29-July 6.
